Today I wanted to share a few great books that Bernice and I have been reading as our morning devotional over the years.
I know what you are thinking– I don’t have time for a morning devotional or if you are married– We don’t have the same schedule and cannot do a devotional together!
No problem! No stress! No worries!
This daily devotional takes about 5-10 minutes. Honestly, if you are so busy, you can read this on your smart phone in the rest room. The ultimate multitasking
Bernice and I read together for a few reasons:
1. accountability
2. we pray together afterwards
3. it aligns us together with the Holy Spirit
And….. Grace always says that it starts our day good. She often joins us in our reading while she is off school or traveling with us.
Of course, there is great benefit to going through a devotional solo as well. I would recommend you journal while you read. Just a few sentences about what the Lord is saying to you as you read. Don’t over-think this! Make it enjoyable.
Here is the link to the 1st book if you want to get it on Kindle or hardback.
It is a 90 day devotional that has an application at the end of every day. Bernice and I (and sometimes little Grace Face) audibly read and repeat the decrees and declarations every morning. Click on the book and you can purchase off of Amazon. (**disclaimer–I receive a small affiliate commission if purchased from provided link :))
The second book we recommend is:
Praying the Promise Instead of the Problems- Faith and Finances
We really fell in love with this book while living in Brazil on the mission field. We have this on for rotation and go through it together at least twice a year since around 2014. It has been an amazing encouragement and source of hope.
It is 21 thank you prayers and and scriptures. Great way to create a lifestyle of gratitude.
It is on sale for $2.99 as an e-book on the author’s website. What a great investment! Click on the book and you will be directed to the site to purchase.
A Book of Missionary Heroes
This book is not a devotional book, but we would read a chapter every morning and drink Brazilian espresso. We take turns reading a chapter aloud on alternate days. A great way to grow close together and learn from each other.
Basil Mathew’s excellent stories about several of the most famous and revered Christian missionaries form a lively and engaging history of missionary work.
This book is written as a set of tales with characters from all around the world. Missionaries preaching the Christian doctrines are depicted in the midst of their adventures, convincing indiginous peoples of the one, true God.
I think this is a must read for all those aspiring to go on the mission field.
Let us know what books you recommend and are reading as a devotional. Iron sharpens iron!!
